“…This release features three outstanding chamber works from different periods of Frank Martin’s career.

…..the Quartet performance by the Utrecht Quartet is wonderfully accomplished, and especially moving in the third-movement Larghetto.

….the Quintet performance by Ilona Timchenko and the Utrecht Quartet has an even greater communicative intensity.

MDG’s engineering presents the performances in impressively vivid sound.

….this is a valuable and distinguished addition to the Martin discography…”

FONO FORUM

“…Ilona Timchenko und das Utrecht String Quartet erweisen sich als wahrer Glücksfall in Sachen Martin, was klangliche Ausgewogenheit, exaktes Zusammenspiel und das enorme, hier geforderte Ausdrucksspektrum betrifft..”

The quartet’s new CD with string quartets by Johannes van Bree received very nice reviews:

“…It is tailor-made for the Utrecht String Quartet. In the Adagio of the First String Quartet, the dialogue between violin and cello is of serene beauty. Mikhail Zemtsov’s viola resonates generously in the Second. The finale is surprising because of the change in tempo and atmosphere, with which the string quartet creates exciting fields of tension…”

“…What is striking here is the close emotional collaboration between the four instruments. There really is no way to get in between. Perfect teamwork, very warm-blooded too… The result is masterful…. This is chamber music of a high standard…”

Utrecht String Quartet went on tour to Canada, to perform at the Festival Music and Beyond for 3 concerts and in VanKleek Hill. They performed pieces from their new Van Bree CD, Filmmusic by Wijnand van Klaveren, and Dutch composer Henriëtte Bosmans o.a.
